Ward Hill, MA, April 13, 2016 – Just last week, Haverhill Mayor James Fiorentini payed a visit to the Spruce Environmental Technologies, Inc. company headquarters located on Saber Way in the city’s Ward Hill section. He was accompanied by the Haverhill Economic Development and Planning Director, Mr. Bill Pillsbury. Mayor Fiorentini and Mr. Pillsbury met with company executives and toured the expanding facilities, taking time to talk with members of the company’s production team, many of whom have been Haverhill residents for their entire lives.
Spruce Environmental Technologies Inc. was founded in 1989, with the central mission of reducing indoor air pollution. Every year, 4.3 million people all over the world die from poor indoor air quality, and Spruce’s dedication to significantly reducing that number has not changed over the company’s 27+ years of business. Spruce primarily manufactures inline ventilation fans, and, under the company’s RadonAway® brand, introduced its first product, the first radon-specific inline fan. RadonAway fans and accessories are now considered to be the industry standard for quality, reliability, and effectiveness.
When Spruce founders Alan Zucchino, David Kapturowski, and Howard Zidel started the company in Mr. Zucchino’s garage, their values and goals were much the same as they are today. As the company has grown to over 100 employees across five different locations, sustainability and employee welfare have always been top priorities. The company headquarters gets about one-third of its power from solar panels on the office building’s roof, and Spruce’s executives are continuously envisioning new ways to adapt their products and facilities to remain sustainable.
Mayor Fiorentini, nicknamed “the Green Mayor” for his environmental initiatives while in office, could not be a more apt guest for the steadily-growing environmental company. The Mayor was born and raised in the city of Haverhill, and is now the longest-serving mayor in Haverhill’s history, having held office since 2003. His focus has always been on the growth of Haverhill and the success of local businesses, while still keeping a “green” consciousness in all of his efforts. Under his leadership, Haverhill was even spotlighted by The Wall Street Journal several years ago for continuing to thrive even during the recession.
It is through the partnership of elected officials and businesses that local economies can continue to prosper. Spruce is proud to have a mayor whose values are so in line with the company’s own, providing a pathway for more local residents to secure meaningful employment, bringing the city increased business growth and success.
