What Do RadonAway Fan Temperature Ratings Mean?

Occasionally we're asked to clear up some confusion regarding the meaning of RadonAway's fan temperature ratings. The "Normal Operating Temperature" – as listed in previous RadonAway fan instructions – is based on ambient temperature conditions that can be expected throughout most of the U.S. for a fan installed outside, NOT the temperature where the fan trips the thermal overload relay. All RadonAway fans are equipped with thermal overload relays rated to operate up to 266°F or 302°F (depending on the motor specifications for each fan model), before cutting fan power.

Occasionally some confusion arises regarding the meaning of RadonAway fan temperature ratings. The "Normal Operating Temperature" as listed in RadonAway's previous fan instructions is based on ambient temperature conditions that can be expected throughout most of the U.S. for a fan installed outside, NOT the temperature where the fan trips the thermal overload relay.

The actual function of the thermal overload relay is to cut power to the fan motor to prevent the motor from drawing too much current and overheating. All of our fans are thermally protected and come equipped with thermal overloads rated to operate up to 266°F or 302°F (depending on the motor specifications for each fan model), before cutting fan power.

At RadonAway, customer experience is a top priority, so to eliminate any future confusion regarding our fan temperature ratings, we have removed the "Normal Operating Temperature" information from our fan instructions.

All of our fans currently are equipped with either a 266°F or a 302°F thermal overload relay to meet current UL requirements.
